Adding to this, Parallelly, The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is holding a massive protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar at Freedom Park in Bengaluru today. Opposition protests to continue, security tightened in Delhi On Wednesday, nearly 300 Opposition MPs marched from Parliament towards Akashvani Bhavan, increasing pressure on Gyanesh Kumar and demanding his resignation. Several parties attended a lunch hosted by Congress chief and LoP in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, but the Samajwadi Party, which has 37 MPs in the Lok Sabha, stayed away, citing a lack of communication from the Congress. However, the SP is expected to take part in the INDIA bloc's protest today, HT has learnt. The protests are part of a series of INDIA bloc demonstrations against Kumar. Most MPs and party supporters were detained and taken away. However, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with Congress general secretary KC Venugopal and a few other party leaders, managed to enter the Akashvani Bhavan campus and continue their protest. Security measures have been stepped up around Sansad Marg, Ashoka Road, Janpath Road and other parts of central Delhi. Around 5,000 Delhi Police personnel have been deployed and several roads have been barricaded. CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Z+ security upgraded Amid ongoing protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Union government has strengthened his existing Z+ security cover. More personnel have now been deployed outside his residence, at the Election Commission office and as part of his personal security, HT has learnt. A senior police officer shared, “The protesters managed to trace his house. There was another protest outside his family’s house in Agra. We had to assess all the threats and increase the security cover. We had also placed a few pickets near his house.” Why CEC Gyanesh Kumar is under fire The protests against Kumar come amid criticism of the Election Commission over the SIR of electoral rolls. The row intensified after reports shared that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded objections on at least 14 occasions over 10 months to decisions and orders, some of which they shared were issued without their knowledge. The Election Commission has, however, shared that the three-member poll panel took all decisions, including those concerning the SIR, unanimously.

Meanwhile, CEC Gyanesh Kumar row LIVE: Congress MP Jebi Mather shared the Opposition is heading to Rajghat to draw inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, who, she shared, fought against injustice and for freedom and justice. Calling the move part of a “freedom struggle” to protect the Constitution and the country, Mather shared Rahul Gandhi was leading the effort and that party leaders were following him. Questioning the heavy deployment of paramilitary forces, she asked, “Is this the India-Pakistan border?” and questioned whether they were being treated as citizens or terrorists.

In further updates, CEC Gyanesh Kumar row LIVE: TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee arrives at Connaught Place to attend the second meeting of Opposition MPs called by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

On top of that, CEC Gyanesh Kumar row LIVE: Former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, speaking in Kolkata, was asked about the proposed CJP protest scheduled for October 10. Responding to questions about the protest, Banerjee shared that she could not disclose the strategy at this stage. “They invited me, but we have a relationship with Gen Z. But we will see later what he does or doesn't do,” she shared.

Commenting on the INDIA alliance's protest in Delhi, Banerjee shared everyone has the right to protest across India, while expressing disapproval over what she shared happened to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi. “What happened to Priyanka Gandhi is not right,” she shared, adding, “Everyone has a sister, mother, child at home. We should give respect to females.”
