National Movie Awards 2026 LIVE: Mammootty won the award for Bramayugam. The stage is set for a significant evening in Indian cinema as the 72nd National Movie Awards are set to be presented in Kevadia, Gujarat, on Tuesday. Instituted in 1954, the National Movie Awards are among the country's most prestigious honours for cinema, recognising excellence across Feature Films, Non-Feature Films and Writing on Cinema. Adding to this, President Droupadi Murmu will present the honours for outstanding achievements in Indian cinema in 2024. The ceremony will start at 3PM and will be streamed live on YouTube. Kevadia, known for the 182-metre Statue of Unity dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, will host the ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's tallest statue on October 31, 2018.
Meanwhile, Mammootty who won his fourth National Award in the Best Star category, received a standing ovation on stage. His performance in Bramayugam was called ‘career-defining’.
Notably, Singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi won Best Singer National Award for the Malayalam movie ARM. She received a standing ovation as she went on stage to receive her award.
As per the latest buzz, Venky Atluri was chosen for the National Movie Award in Best Dialogue category for the movie Lucky Bhaskar. It starred Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. He was present at the award ceremony to accept the honour.
In further updates, Shashwat Sachdev won for the movie's original score. As he went on to receive his award, Aditya Dhar and Yami Gautam cheered on.
On top of that, Dhanush received the second National Award of the evening for his directorial movie Raayan. The project holds a special place in his career as it was his second movie as a director and also marked his 50th outing as an star. That made the National Award feel even more personal.
"A first is always unforgettable," Dhanush reflected, adding that winning his inaugural National Award for direction is a blessing he will hold close for the rest of his life.
