SUMMARY Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are all set to reunite on the big screen after 17 years with Priyadarshan’s much-awaited movie 'Haiwaan', which releases in theatres across the country today, September 11. As per early ticket-window trends, the movie is expected to put up a strong performance at the ticket windows this weekend. However, the movie’s Day 1 advance booking got off to a slow start, collecting an estimated Rs 1.03 crore rupees net, or Rs 2.76 crore rupees including blocked seats, ahead of its theatrical rollout. As audiences flock to theatres to catch their movie on the first day, director Priyadarshan has made it clear that 'Haiwaan' should not be viewed as a carbon copy of his acclaimed Malayalam movie Oppam. In conversation with ANI, the filmmaker shared he has deliberately approached the story differently and wants audiences to discover the changes for themselves. “No, I don't want to talk about the changes. Let people see it and understand,” he shared. The director also opened up that he had initially planned to make the movie with Saif Ali Khan before Akshay Kumar came on board. Explaining his decision to cast Akshay in a role unlike the comic characters they have explored together in the past, Priyadarshan shared, “That's the difference, because every movie should not look the same. So I thought I could use Akshay Kumar in a different way. So this is one opportunity I got and I decided, okay, let me work with him in a different role.” Adding to the rollout-day excitement, the makers of late unveiled the title track ‘Main Toh Nahi Haiwaan’, featuring Akshay, Saif, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher. Composed by Pritam, with lyrics by Kumaar and vocals by Raghav Chaitanya, the upbeat track has added to the movie’s pre-rollout buzz. The movie also marks the much-awaited reunion of the leading men after their last collaboration in Tashan (2008). The actors previously shared screen space in films including Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Yeh Dillagi (1994) and Aarzoo (1999). The movie features a strong ensemble cast, including Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav and Govardhan Asrani, among others. Akshay is also collaborating with Priyadarshan on the soon-to-release horror comedy Bhoot Bangla. Adding to this, During his first-ever Instagram Live with his official fan account @saifalikhanpataudiworld, Saif opened up that Priyadarshan had visited his house before the cameras started rolling and was impressed by his wardrobe choices. “The director came home and shared, ‘I like what you’re wearing. Wear this only in the movie, come like this,’” Saif shared during the chat.
Meanwhile, In the chat, Saif also lauded his character Ranvir Singh's style statement from Race. He opened up that if there was one character's style he could recreate in real life, it would be Ranvir's fashion choices. "I like the way he dressed," he shared.
Notably, Star Saiyami Kher, who is currently busy shooting in Kochi for her soon-to-release movie “Haiwaan” alongside Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, says it has been a “joyride” working with them.
As per the latest buzz, Directed by celebrated filmmaker Priyadarshan, the movie marks yet another milestone in Saiyami’s career as she collaborates with one of Indian cinema’s most iconic directors.
In further updates, Sharing her excitement, Saiyami, who is working for the first time with filmmaker Priyadarshan, told IANS: “Working with Priyadarshan sir feels surreal. His body of work has been a huge part of Indian cinema and growing up, I’ve watched and admired his films. To now be on his set as an star feels really special .”
On top of that, She added: “I feel truly fortunate that I’ve had the chance to work with some of the finest directors of our country, Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, Anurag Kashyap, Neeraj Pandey, R. Balki, Rahul Dholakia and now Priyadarshan sir.”
She shared that each director has taught her so much and that she has grown not only as an star but as a human.
