Delhi Police file FIR on pellet gun matter after Rahul Gandhi’s dharna over student’s complaint

Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR on a complaint alleging that a student suffered pellet gun injuries during the July 20 Jantar Mantar protest, hours after Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna at Parliament Street Police Station, demanding action.
Adding to this, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with Sahil Lochav, who suffered pellet gun injuries during the Jantar Mantar students' protest, at the Parliament Street Police Station to file a complaint, in New Delhi on Friday. (ANI) The Congress had claimed the police had earlier refused to register an FIR despite the student approaching them with a written complaint. Gandhi accompanied the student to the police station on Friday and demanded that the case be registered.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi ended the over-six-hour dharna at Parliament Street police station after the registration of FIR.
Notably, The development came shortly after Rahul Gandhi sat on a dharna outside the office of the deputy commissioner of police at the Parliament Street Police Station, alleging that the police had failed to act on the student’s complaint.
As per the latest buzz, Rahul Gandhi had reached the police station along with the student, whose attempts to get a case registered had allegedly failed to elicit action.
In further updates, “Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition, is on a dharna outside the DCP office, New Delhi, alleging that ‘Delhi Police refused to file FIR in the Pellet gun victim case’,” the Congress shared in a post on X.
On top of that, The Congress alleged that the student, accompanied by his lawyers, submitted a written complaint to the Delhi Police on August 14. The party shared the matter was followed up on August 17 through email and phone calls, but no action was taken.
The Congress further alleged that the police did not provide an acknowledgement or an I/O number for the complaint.
