Emraan Hashmi rubbishes reports of playing Mehmood in RD Burman biopic: ‘Haven’t been approached'

Emraan Hashmi has rubbished reports of him playing veteran star Mehmood in the soon-to-release RD Burman biopic. The star took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify that he has never been approached for the movie and is not playing any role in it.

Meanwhile, Earlier, it was reported that Emraan Hashmi would play veteran star Mehmood in the soon-to-release RD Burman biopic. The movie is as per reports set to explore Mehmood’s close friendship and creative association with the legendary composer. However, just hours after the report circulated, Hashmi quashed the claims. The project is expected to go on floors in September.
Notably, While the formal casting announcements are yet to be made, it is reported that Farhan Akhtar will play the legendary composer in the movie. The project is being directed by Neeraj Pandey, who has helmed critically acclaimed projects such as A Wednesday, Baby, Special 26 and more. R D Burman, popularly known as Pancham Da, remains one of the most influential figures in Hindi movie music.
As per the latest buzz, A recent report in Bollywood Hungama claimed that Akshay Kumar will step into the role of his late legendary father-in-law, Rajesh Khanna, in the movie. For the unversed, Rajesh Khanna and Burman worked together on several memorable films, making their professional association an important part of the composer's legacy.
In further updates, Emraan is currently awaiting the rollout of his Awarapan 2. The movie is the sequel to the Emraan Hashmi cult classic that was rolled out in 2007. Presented by Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films, Awarapan 2 has been produced by Vishesh Bhatt and written by Bilal Siddiqui, with Nitin Kakkar directing the project.
On top of that, The trailer of the sequel shows the makers building on the cult classic while introducing new villains and other characters. Emraan will return as Shivam Pandit in the movie. Going by the footage, Awarapan 2 promises a mix of high-octane action, emotional storytelling and a soundtrack that stays true to the franchise’s identity. The movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide on August 14, 2026.
