'Avengers: Doomsday': What details did fans miss in the trailer?
Here's the latest update from the Hollywood/Marvel world:
The trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ took the internet by storm after its unprecedented rollout last week. From Robert Downey Jr.’s unmatched portrayal of Doctor Doom (who battled Thor, the God of Thunder, with just two fingers) to the iconic Chris Evans’ stunning comeback, followers started drawing theories about what to expect in the December 18, 2026, rollout movie. As widely as the clip spread online, many followers also missed details that resemble those in the comic books. Here’s a closer look at the concepts mentioned in the comic book and trailer.
Adding to this, One particular moment in the trailer managed to drop jaws: Chris Evans retrieving the power of being ‘worthy’ of Thor’s hammer. However, Sam Wilson continues to hold the mantle of Captain America. The question remains: who exactly is Chris Evans playing if not Captain America? As mentioned in the comic books, there is a possibility that he could be Nomad, a brand new characterisation. On the other hand, Rogers could be the sinister Captain Hydra, who triggered the Secret Empire crossover event, per Collider. If the second possibility comes true, followers could see evil Robert Downey Jr. and evil Chris Evans.
Meanwhile, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will be followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ which releases in December 2027. The breadcrumbs for the ultimate wars could be laid out from the initial instalment. The event ‘Time Runs Out’ consists of many heroes coming together after their universes get destroyed, while Doctor Doom constructs his plans. For ‘Secret Wars’ to happen, the X-Men universe will collapse, adding to the emotional stakes and conflicts. The particular event ends with the Marvel multiverse ending, leading to Battleworld and Secret Wars.
Notably, In ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ the God adopts Gorr’s daughter, Love. They make a team, where she controls Stormbreaker, and he uses the iconic hammer. However, in the trailer of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ he is seen using Stormbreaker to fight Doctor Doom in an adrenaline-filled fight (which the villain effortlessly shrugs off with just two fingers). Despite her cameo in the trailer, the question of Love’s fate arises.
As per the latest buzz, Mystique, who shapeshifts into Yelena Belova in a split-second, makes an impressive appearance in the trailer; however, this cameo raises more questions than answers. The history of her treachery suggests that she could easily join the X-Men, but she has also tried to harm them. With the emotional stakes, Mystique could genuinely be an outright part of the team. However, one should not negate the possibility of her joining hands with Doctor Doom or acting out of self-interest, per Collider.
In further updates, In addition to Thor vs Doctor Doom, the trailer showed many other hero fights that seem unbalanced. Shang-Chi, who possesses the power of the Ten Rings, fights with Gambit. Meanwhile, Mystique fights with Yelena Belova – and the two have completely different endurance, physical abilities and performances. While the movie can flip the script, the comic books suggest Yelena and Gambit do not have a chance.
