Sharing an update on whether schools are closed in Mumbai or not due to heavy rains, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) maintained that all institutions across Mumbai will remain functional today, Wednesday, and even tomorrow, Thursday.
Adding to this, In Mumbai, the BMC typically declares a public holiday across educational institutions when the IMD declares a ‘red’ warning for the city. owing to the possibility of intense spells of rainfall for a prolonged period.
Meanwhile, An IMD red alert, for perspective, is sounded when the total rainfall in a span of 24 hours exceeds 204 mm rain.
Notably, However, the city is unlikely to witness such heavy spells this week with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert on Wednesday and Thursday.
As per the latest buzz, While the weather bureau’s yellow alert calls for alertness amongst administration and citizens, school closure is unlikely unless the IMD upgrades its forecast warning to red warning or an orange alert when there is possibility of heavy downpour with gusty winds.
In further updates, According to the IMD forecast, Mumbai will remain under a yellow alert until Friday, July 24, as it has been for the third day today, seeing heavy downpour.
On top of that, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri have been expected to experience severe weather conditions, with IMD forecast predicting a very heavy rainfall in the regions. The IMD has sounded an orange alert in the region for the next 24 hours.
The IMD Santacruz observatory recorded 48.4 mm of rainfall, while Colaba recorded 35.6 mm. The BMC’s automatic weather system showed the western suburbs at 64.91 mm, eastern suburbs at 48.7 mm, and the island city at 36.65 mm.
